Workable work: being able and willing to work longer

Having work is one thing, but having workable work is the real key to fulfilment and growth. Workable work is about four crucial elements:

  • Stress-free working: No overload, only fulfilment.
  • Enjoyment at work: Motivation is the engine of success.
  • Learning opportunities: Keep growing, keep flourishing.
  • Work-life balance: Room for your life outside of work.

After a long day, people often ask: "How was your day?" The quality of the work depends on various factors such as workload, task variation and support. But …

Why is workable work so important?

  • For employees, workable work means more enjoyment, growth and lower absenteeism.
  • For employers, it delivers motivated, efficient employees and contributes to the company's values.
  • Independent entrepreneurs flourish with workable work: passion, satisfaction and growth are the result.
  • But …

Who carries the responsibility?

In a rapidly changing world of work, entrepreneurs, employees, organisations, governments and social partners share this responsibility. The Flemish and federal governments' 'workable work' action plan offers inspiration and levers to advance workable work.

Making work workable takes time and dedication

Every aspect of workable work deserves attention, and change often brings change with it.

Discover the strength of your organisation

With a workability scan such as Werkmeter, you can easily assess the current state of your organisation. This employee survey creates the crucial link between your structure and how your team experiences their work. Afterwards, you have a clear picture of the bottlenecks in your organisation and you're ready to put a thoughtful action plan into practice.

And it gets better: in 2024 you paid only 40% of the cost of your workability scan!

The Department of Work and Social Economy stood ready in 2024 to support companies wanting to improve their workability. With the workability cheques, every company could invest up to €9,000 to take a step further on workable work (this measure ran until 31 July 2024).
